Episode 3 of the Royal Academy of Music's podcast series 'Short Stories' focuses on two Black students from the class from 1918 - composer, conductor and performer Edmund T Jenkins and the singer Evelyn Dove. A striking feature of the podcast is that we actually get to hear music performed or written by these musicians, rather than just descriptions of their work.
My favourite moment is where we hear from Jenkins' grand-nephew Tuffus Zimbabwe - a pianist, composer and educator who is also a member of the SNL band. I was really impressed with how much music they managed to fit into this.
